On November 3, 2024, the “2024 Academic Symposium on Corporate Compliance and Human Rights” was successfully held in Guangzhou. Co-organized by the Institution for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law and the Human Rights Rule of Law Research Center of Guangdong University of Technology. the symposium attracted participants from China University of Political Science and Law, Guangdong University of Technology, Oslo University, China Federation of Textile Industries, China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Mineral and Chemical Industry, Xinjiang Academy of Political Science and Law, Nankai University, Xinjiang University, Guangzhou University, Fudan University, Yunnan University, Northwestern University, Capital University of Economics and Business, Shenzhen University, Shantou University, Kashi University, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, Lanzhou University and other colleges, universities and institutions of a number of experts and scholars.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Zhang Wei, Executive Vice Dean of the Institution for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law, and Prof. Chen Youwu, Dean of the Law School of Guangdong University of Technology, delivered welcoming speeches.
The seminar was divided into three stages, chaired by Prof. Qi Huan, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of Xinjiang University of Political Science and Law, Prof. Zhang Jianjiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xinjiang University School of Law, and Associate Prof. Lu Zhi'an, Executive Deputy Director of the Center for Human Rights Studies of Fudan University, with the experts and scholars discussing in depth about the latest development and challenges of the field of corporate compliance and human rights.
The closing ceremony was hosted by Prof. Li Zhiming, Vice Dean of the Law School of Guangdong University of Technology. Prof. Zhou Lulu, Associate Dean of Guangzhou University, made concluding remarks and Prof. Qian Jinyu, Executive Deputy Director of the Center for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of Guangdong University of Technology, made closing remarks.
This seminar is an important part of the China Forum on Business and Human Rights. Since the first preparatory meeting was held in December 2020, the Forum has gone through five years, become a major academic platform to promote the research on corporate compliance and human rights in China, and promoted cooperation and exchanges in this field both at home and abroad. In particular, through the cooperation with Chinese Journal of Human Rights (a quarterly journal organized by China University of Political Science and Law), the Forum has continuously contributed theoretical wisdom and professional strength to the promotion of the cause of business and human rights in China, and has assumed the role of an important bridge to enhance the communication between the academia and the practice.
