In accordance with the China University of Political Science and Law Doctoral Training Regulations and the Doctoral Training Program for Human Rights Law of Institute For Human Rights, the Institute hereby initiates the mid-term assessment and thesis topic selection and defense for doctors in the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. Specific arrangements are as follows:
I. Scope of Participation
Doctors of 2022 and doctors admitted prior to 2022 who have not yet completed mid-term assessment or thesis topic selection and defense must fulfill these requirements this semester.
II. Schedule for Mid-Term Assessment and Topic Selection and Defense
(1) Submission of Academic Records
a. Fourth-Semester Reading Reports and Term Papers (doctors admitted prior to 2022)
Supervisors must complete grading and enter scores for term papers and reading reports via the Graduate Integrated Management System by 15:00 on May 6.
【Note: Students must submit materials through the system by a deadline set by their supervisors. Supervisors are advised to notify students promptly to ensure timely preparation.】
b. Other Academic Materials
Submission Time: 10:00 – 11:00 AM, May 6
Location: Institute Office
Materials Required:
Proof of completion for all courses or training modules required before mid-term assessment that have not yet been graded.
(2) Submission of Mid-Term Assessment and Topic Selection and Defense Materials
Submission Time: 10:00 – 11:00 AM, May 20
Submission Method: (i) Hard copies to the Institute Office. (ii) Electronic copies to the academic office email.
Materials Required (all double-sided printed):
a. CUPL Doctoral Training Plan (signed by supervisor; 4 hard copies; download from Graduate School website).
b. CUPL Doctoral Academic Progress Report and Annual Evaluation Form (signed by supervisor; download from Graduate School website).
c. CUPL Doctoral Mid-Term Assessment Form (signed by supervisor, with attached transcripts; original hard copy + scanned signed copy; download from Graduate Integrated Management System).
【Attention : First, please have your supervisor fill in the approval opinions in the system. After that, download the form and request your supervisor to sign it. The downloaded form will automatically display the supervisor's approval comments.】
d. CUPL Graduate Topic Selection and Defense Form (signed by supervisor; original hard copy + scanned signed copy; download from Graduate Integrated Management System).
Bring 5 copies of the signed Thesis Proposal Defense Form to the assessment and defense session.
【Attention: Incomplete materials will not be accepted; Late submissions will be deemed as withdrawal from the process.】
(3) Mid-Term Assessment and Topic Selection and Defense Schedule
Tentatively scheduled for late May or early June 2024. Specific dates and venues will be announced later.
III. Key Notes
(1) The mid-term assessment of graduate students, as well as the selection and proposal of their dissertations, are among the most important components of postgraduate education and teaching. Supervisors and graduate students should attach great importance to the significance and role of this work, earnestly study, comprehend, and implement the guiding principles and regulations stipulated in the official documents of both the university and the institute, and ensure the work is completed on schedule and with high quality.
(2) Doctoral supervisors shall strictly fulfill their supervisory duties in accordance with university and Institute regulations, promptly guiding and overseeing doctors in completing and submitting required documentation. Upon receiving submitted materials, supervisors must thoroughly review the candidate’s academic progress and mid-term assessment requirements, rigorously evaluate and revise the thesis topic selection and defense content to prevent procedural or substantive discrepancies, and provide detailed and accurate feedback and evaluations in writing.
This notice shall be implemented accordingly.
